KAZANJIAN FOUNDATION GRANT WILL MATCH FUNDS FROM JEWELRY INDUSTRY DEALERS TO SUPPORT TSUNAMI RELIEF EFFORTS

The Kazanjian Foundation encourages donations to provide continued support for the Tsunami victims though the South Lanka Development Foundation, LTD and receive a 2004 tax credit –

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, February 16, 2005: The Kazanjian Foundation, a 501c (3) non-profit organization, and sponsors of Jewels for Charity program, today announced that they have set up the Kazanjian Foundation Grant where the Foundation will match funds from contributions received from jewelry colleagues to support the continued needs of the Tsunami victims. The Kazanjian Foundation will forward the donations directly to the South Lanka Development Foundation, LTD.

In order to ensure that 100 percent of the donations, coupled with the Kazanjian Foundations matched funds, go to the relief effort, Vice-chairman Ramsey Mohamed, along with Mohammed Zuahar, friends of the Kazanjians, have volunteered to handle all of the administrative efforts in Sri Lanka.

Once funds are received, The Kazanjian Foundation will match all money donated from the jewelry industry and issue a grant to the South Lanka Development Foundation, where its vice-chairman Ramsey Mohamed will administer the funds. Because of their volunteer efforts, one hundred percent of the money will reach the survivors to aid in the form of medication, clothing, and shelter for those who have lost their homes and family members.

“Relief efforts will be continuing for this devastating global disaster for quite some time, said Michael Kazanjian, executive director, The Kazanjian Foundation. A personal friend of mine tragically lost many relatives in the disaster, and therefore in an effort to provide continued aid to the Tsunami victims, we have combined our efforts to provide aid where it is most needed – in those remote villages that were ravaged the worst.”

Those interested in making a donation may send a check payable to The Kazanjian Foundation, earmarked Sri Lanka Relief Project, or contact Michael Kazanjian at the Kazanjian Foundation headquarters listed below. Donors will receive a tax-deductible receipt from The Kazanjian Foundation. As the disaster occurred in December of 2004, any checks written and received before April 15, 2005, may still be attributed to 2004 taxes.

About The Kazanjian Foundation The Kazanjian Foundation, a 501c (3) non-profit organization, was established in 1957 to support scientific, artistic, cultural and other worthy causes. The Beverly Hills based Foundation emphasizes programs for disadvantaged and underprivileged youth, and also provides scholarships for promising inner-city youths. The establishment of the Foundation was motivated by the Kazanjian family’s gratitude to the United States; and where their migrant forebears sought and found refuge in the early part of the previous century. The Kazanjian Foundation’s Jewels for Charity program, the charitable arm of the prominent jewelry company Kazanjian Bros., Inc., provides individuals with an opportunity to donate fine jewelry to the charity of their choice and receive the highest tax benefit permitted by law. Jewels for Charity makes the donation process simple and enjoyable, and helps individuals help those less fortunate.
